It smells like Christmas to me!

Christmas approaching? Excited for “the most wonderful time of the year”? It's that I am and a lot. Come on, and find out why I love this time of year so much!

Good afternoon everyone!

Welcome to my first post on my blog, in fact, on our blog, because this space is also yours. Nothing better than the Christmas theme to start my journey here, as it is my favorite time of year.

Yes, I'm one of those people that barely makes it to October and starts counting down to Christmas Day. Just imagine, Halloween is over, and the mood of “Happy Holidays” and “Merry Christmas” is already installed.

Christmas for me is joy, it's remembering all the beautiful traditions that are usually held at this time, it's becoming a child again and remembering to wait for Santa Claus, (still 25 years old, I get euphoric when December 25th arrives to open the presents) is to be with family members that we often haven't seen for months because they were emigrants, it's the decorations on the street and in the bright stores (and that you feel like taking everything, even if there's no need), it's the choirs and Christmas songs, which we all know the lyrics by heart for years, but even so, we make a point of listening and singing them over and over again (because we love them and they never go out of style), it's making the nativity scene, the pine tree…. finally, many more aspects that do not fit in this text.

Here on the island of Madeira, Portugal, we have the custom of making the honey cake (with sugar cane honey, not bee honey), which is just delicious (for those who have never tried it, I strongly advise), the buns ( there are several types: honey, oat, with sugar and cinnamon around, with candied fruit, among others), sandwiches with Carne in Vinha-d'alhos (pork marinated in wine and garlic), the preparation of varied flavors of liqueurs, which warm us up on the coldest days, the birth and rooster masses, and of course the traditional market night, where all Madeirans leave on December 23 towards the Mercado dos Lavradores in Funchal ( although each municipality and/or parish already has its own market night), in order to sing, eat, drink, meet friends, buy the famous tangerines and pineapples from the market, some souvenirs among many other fun things.

And on that side, is Christmas your favorite time too? If not, what is it? Let me know in the comments and don't forget to give your Feedback! Here I wait for you for the next post!
